In the story, the grandfather, in order to pass on the traditional virtues of hard work, thrift, diligence, courage, unity, and friendship to the children, devises a competition with his grandchildren. This competition brings the children back to the real lives of their father and grandfather during their childhood, recreating the living scenes of the two generations and allowing the children to experience how kids truly lived back then.
